Nothing says comfort like riding at 300 mph over an earthquake zone.

A train from LA to San Fran would most likely become a homeless shelter and it would be considered cruel to not let them live on the trains.

I was going with the Movies. He must have just watched King Kong Take on Godzilla, and noticed the Japanese Bullet trains.

High speed rail is great. However, it can't be profitable if destinations don't have robust public transportation. People are less likely to use high speed rail if once they are at their destination they are stuck taking a cab or an uber.

That is why it works in Europe.
