Should we have a Moderator Report Card?

We all have moderators we like, those we tolerate and those we cannot stand. Should we have a moderator report card from time to time just to see how moderators stack up?

Call your state legislators and insist they approve the Article V convention of States to propose amendments.

It is an interesting idea. It has the potential to be very useful, but there is also a huge potential for abuse.

It would be too negative, I think, and moderation is a thankless enough job as it is.

When I was a manager I let my subordinates rate me after their annual review was completed and signed. Every one of them.

Granted my annual review process was a bit different from what others did. It stated immediately after their last review. We would have monthly, one on one meetings to talk about what they wanted, how they were doing, the obstacles they faced and whether or not I was doing all I could to support their tasks. Usually I bot gave and took actions out of our monthly meetings. The first thing we covered in the next meeting was the status on the action items. In the final month before the review we dug in deep on each area. We kept good notes.

Then I asked them to write the bullet points they most wanted to see covered in my report. Once written we went over it in detail. I gave them the opportunity to suggest changes. When the day came there were no surprises for them or me.

If we decided to rate moderators we would need criterion upon which to rate them.

I believe friendliness is at the top of my list.

I have not seen much action needed from the moderators since the election period, when a swarm of trolls flew in.

Like not noticing the refs in a football game, that is a good thing.

It would be meaningless. Many if not most Warnings and other Moderator actions are announced by one, but agreed on by all. Giving a Moderator a poor rating or grade on that basis would be a case of shooting the messenger.

What would happen, too frequently, is a known keft- or right-leaning Moderator being assigned the blame every time a member with an opposing viewpoint got shot down or disciplined.

I believe fairness should be at the top of the list. "Friendliness" could and would be construed as allowing those you like to get away with breaking the rules whereas if you are fair in all encounters the likelihood of that is diminished.

I think the moderators here do a great job and are more than fair to all of us. No report card needed or wanted

Good point, the mods work as a team so individual report cards won't work. Even if you PM a mod with a complaint, he or she should act as go between you and the mod team.
