Very true. Where I live, power outages are fairly frequent. We've gone over a week with no power, though that length of outage is pretty rare thank God. We do have a small generator, but I'd like to get set up with an automatic emergency generator powered by our large propane tank.

We never went more than a few hours without power here. Knock on wood.

Cheese really does not freeze that well, so I will have to try shredding it first. Block cheese just crumbles when you cut it after it is defrosted.

I wonder why mash potatoes have a short shelf life (2 months) since they do not in frozen dinners and products like french fries?

You were probably one of those in "Hurricane Sandy" screaming for you life in a tropical storm. Or maybe the audacity of the west coast shutting off your power for a few hours. I go without power for days and live on a generator and propane burners during hurricanes. People in other areas live with tornadoes and have the same problem.
Your not being prepared is something that is worthy of being laughed at.

I look forward to your other prepping threads. What worries me the most is the vaccine passport. I'm worried that in order to force the other half of us to get vaccinated that they will require the passport for shopping. There is no way that I will get the vaccine, no matter what. I think a years supply of goods is a smart move, just in case. I still have most of my prepping stuff, but I should probably enhance it. Your link was indeed helpful, as a matter of fact, I think I will buy a freezer once I get my garage built. That could be another month, hopefully I wont be too late.

Better living through chemistry.

Flash freezing something will extend it's (frozen) shelf life, but most people do not have a flash-freezer at home.
