The situation is either , I'm always wrong , or one eyed tPF posters are always wrong....... I know which side I'll be backing . In the deep history of Vietnam , the Vietnamese war is only very recent history ,and many Vietnamese who lived through it are still around today , and not even that old............and you claim that Vietnam is gravitating towards the US ?..........Ive been around some in the last 66 years , and all it was above ground with good view - not putting around underwater in The Yellow Submarine ....(lol)

So does the US, but that doesn't change the fact that Russia and Vietnam have been allies for decades.

China has already pulled Cambodia an Laos out of Vietnam's orbit.
China is the number one trading partner of Vietnam.
China is already moving into Vietnam's territorial waters.

Financial dependence. Geographically isolate a country by land and by sea.

What do you think is happening here. Russia will be happy to make a good profit off Vietnam but they are not going to war with China to stop their takeover of SE Asia. South Korea has its own problems to deal with. This is why I think it is a stupid move for US corporations to think of Vietnam is a long term solution to China and China is not worried as they move to Vietnam.

Vietnam began vaccinating citizens using the AstraZeneca vaccine. The second registered vaccine is Sputnik V. The initial batch was just handed over by Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev to Vietnam for free. But vaccines are not the only new cooperation signaling closer Moscow-Hanoi relations. Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin only recently announced so-called multifaceted initiatives aimed at creating a closer strategic partnership." ........................" Moscow is now forging forward with bilateral cooperation between the two countries on trade, economically and investment-wise. A good example is a recent move for cooperation between Vietnam and Russia in artificial intelligence (AI). A recent online conference organized by Vietnam Software & IT services (VINASA), Russoft, and other vested interests focused on leading-edge AI technologies to discuss the future. " .............." Another critical aspect of this Russia-Hanoi synergy is the apparent uptick in policy leveraging from Washington in the region. The west is trying desperately to counter China, and particularly in the South China Sea, and Hanoi plays a vital role in this. This becomes apparent reading the narrative from sources like Rand Corporation, where political scientist Bonny Lin used Vietnam’s play to dampen China’s response on the issue using a Russian oil rig as a chip. But these kinds of moves to appease the west seem to be fewer in numbers recently, which could indicate a more significant shift. " ...... https://journal-neo.org/2021/04/30/i...ian-orbit-now/

Apart from the usual fake news innuendo , very few US corporations are relocating to Vietnam , or planning to do so any time soon . The biggest driver of Sth China Sea tension is US propaganda , and the countries of the region will be far better off negotiating the situation between themselves , without US interference .

Whoever criticizes capitalism, while approving immigration, whose working class is its first victim, had better shut up. Whoever criticizes immigration, while remaining silent about capitalism, should do the same.

...never mind the fact they already once conquered and occupied Vietnam.

It turned into, ...well...a Vietnam...for them and they left....limping.
