    Arrow POLL: TB or 24?

I have notice that alot of our members get thread-banned on multiple threads. In other words, they name-call, insult etc. I was curious - does the general membership prefer that these members that get alot of bans instead get a quick 24 our suspension - to help curb their conduct?

I am very serious about this poll. Do we as a forum prefer the endless TB's / Warnings to try to curb the conduct - or would we prefer that the mods instead do a quick 24 hrs for these folks right off the bat - to try to get this sniping to stop so we can get on to political discussion?

I voted quick trigger 24 hours. Maybe that would settle the frequent name-callers and insulters down.

In my experience, the worst offenders, the ones who just can't seem to help themselves, keep going and going despite any actions taken by the Mods and eventually get permabanned. Insults and name-calling is the only reason they're here. No change in Moderator tactics is going to affect them.

As for those who might conceivably be redeemable or amenable to curbing their worst behavior in order to stick around, I guess the 24-hour suspension is probably the best answer. Someone who has been a member of this forum for more than a couple of weeks, let alone years, should know the rules by now. Warnings should not be necessary, and threadbans are just a game of Whack-a-Mole.

There are not that many interesting threads.

I think a 24 hour long thread ban is sufficient for almost every case.

    The question is why?

When I see 5 pages of "you are", no "you are" then maybe 24 hours will work.
The person baiting the interaction should be subject to the same, even if the person is a certain moderator.

When I see the intent is to kill the thread, then 24 hours is just a delay until they will come back again.

But i also have not seen a big problem here.

I'd leave this sort of strategy to the mods. When I served we would generally treat serial offenders more and more harshly unto even suspensions (temp bans).

I could see per discussions a couple weeks ago the issuing of warnings prior to TBs. This too could depend on behavior, serial offenders skipping warnings and getting immediate TBs or worse.

That's a good and important point. When one member insults another the mods should review what led up to it and see if it the insult wasn't trolled--and the troll be given a harsher penalty!

I vote for less censorship. Snowflake sites are a dime a dozen and this place seems better than that.

Stop calling people racist every 30 seconds and you won't get banned every other day.
