By parodying Rebel Without a Cause, I Was a Teenage Werewolf, the Twilight Zone and McCarthyism, it's taking a poke at late 1950's sensibilities. What do you associate with the late 50's but a lot of angst movies, film noir, Leave it to Beaver type families, lots of method acting; goofy horror movies; the omnipresent witch hunt for communists and PSAs moralizing about one thing or another?

It makes fun of the communist scare. Perhaps the Canadian context and accents made it confusing for you. Can you tell me what was bigoted about it?
