    Alternative to some other forum

Today I read the first 14 chapters of a Clive Cussler Dirk Pitt novel. It was far better than being abused elsewhere.

The "Brian Shaw" character in Cussler's Dirk Pitt novel 'Night Probe' is very obviously supposed to be James Bond. CC told me that the Fleming estate offered to allow him to actually call his character James Bond...for $50K. Cussler passed.

I read two more chapters today. I have about fifteen Cussler novels in hard bound and paperback. Flood Tide is the first one for me. I chose to read the hardbound so I could read it outdoors.

I am preparing to write my first novel by reading and analyzing how other successful authors created their stories.

I think the first Clive Cussler/Dirk Pitt book I read was, "Vixen 03".

Once it is a bit cooler I will head out to my back yard and read another dozen chapters.

I used to read 300-500 page books at a rate of two to three per week. Then I found forums.

I start my day with Gab. Then here. I go to that other forum, mostly just to scan it. I am not welcomed there any longer.

It turns out reading retains all of its pleasures.

Alright. I am up to chapter 21. I easily suspend my disbelief.

In a half hour I will once again return to my backyard, this time with a glass of home brewed peach wine from 2015. I think I have about three more daylight hours where I can read outside.

At long last the point of the story is revealed, it is a race to find a shipwreck. It took 28 chapters to get there.

I think I read that one, I'm not sure, I've read so many of them it's hard to keep them straight.

Flood Tide was fun. I had to suspend my disbelief many times.

Cyclops is on deck. I think I have reached chapter ten.

Here is what I noticed. Cussler uses the first five or six chapters to start an equal number of storylines. Over the course of the rest of the book the storylines mingle, some lines are satisfactorily ended while other remain subtly in the background.
