On this episode of The Federalist Radio Hour, civil rights veteran and founder of The Woodson Center, Bob Woodson joins Culture Editor Emily Jashinsky to discuss his book “Red, White, and Black: Rescuing American History from Revisionists and Race Hustlers.”
In Woodson’s book, which is meant to counter the New York Times’ 1619 Project, he rejects the false premise that our history must be viewed through the lens of the systemic oppression of black people.
“What we’re offering in this series of essays that I’ve just published is an alternative narrative that disputes the whole notion that many of the problems facing large swaths of black Americans, out of wedlock births, crime, and violence. The left says that’s attributable to the legacy of slavery and Jim Crow,” he said. “We refute that with evidence in our essays that describe that slavery and Jim Crow can never define black America.”
The left’s approach to race and issues of race, Woodson says, is not only misguided but it’s actually hurting black communities.
