People used to turn on the TV to watch the 6 o'clock news and see reporters who had worked on stories all day. Not anymore. Now, the news has to be instant because the competition is putting it out there as it happens. Not well, mind you, the journalists have to produce a few paragraphs in ten minutes--upload them--and then write updates. The traditional news model is dead.

News outlets no longer have large advertisers and subscriptions that keep them well-staffed and afloat. It's all about affiliate marketing, so the reporters know they have to optimize for SEO so viewers can find their stories. That adds a click-bait flavor, and newsrooms are now virtual and understaffed, so integrity drops.

Then there's the worst factor--intentional polarization. It's so difficult to compete for an audience, the media outlets can't put out the unbiased--just, the fact's ma'am--stories they used to write. Now, they have to find an audience, so they slant their news.

No, the journalistic standards of the last century are gone, killed by the net. Every time you search for a specific story, Google analyzes your searches and clicks and then shows you more of the same and more of the same. Media outlets have to polarize in hopes of finding readers--and they do.
    Examples?

I've been a "news junkie" since I was a small kid. I go wherever to this day, especially when any story sounds a little fishy, or a number doesn't sound quite right. I still get two newspapers, the WSJ online and watch news shows on multiple channels. Everything from the BBC to Fox Business. I'd like to think I have enough common sense to sort thru most things, provided I do my homework. Being a "numbers" guy is immensely helpful. Many years of accounting and tax work, along with having my own business and other family enterprises is extremely helpful as well. Most everything has layers and many shades of grey.

LOL. No one lies more than CNN, NY Times and WAPO.

You have to use a variety and weigh it all out yourself against your own common sense and logic.
Most people cannot get OAN and even Direct TV is trying to cancel them due to pressure from the cancel crowd. The same people trying to cancel FOX and any other outlet that fails to push left wing propaganda.

I'm glad that you are so influenced by questions like "what type of Ice cream did you get" from your MSM.
Why would they ask about rising gas prices, immigrants swarming the border, Origins of the Wuhan virus, still high unemployment, deficits...

If lies are proven mainstream media is forced to retract. Hence journalistic standards.

Would people with good journalistic standards not tell lies to begin with?

In the case of CNN, they jus hoped they did not get caught fast enough that it did not ruin their political damage created by the fraud.

Why would they just tell them and hope they do not get caught?
