California Drought Could Cause Wide-Ranging Industry Problems

The water levels of over 1,500 reservoirs in California are 50% lower than normal at this time of year

The latest shortage hitting the American West? Water. And while Chick-fil-A sauce and semiconductors are important for a functioning economy, this year's historic drought in the West could affect—and we do mean this—literally everything.
The state of play: California Gov. Gavin Newsom has put 41 counties under a state of emergency in an attempt to drastically limit water use. Some scientists say the region is facing the worst drought in centuries.

Bad news for those who like almond milk or almonds. It's also likely to be a really bad fire season unless they ban all human traffic from wooded areas. Hopefully PG&E doesn't cause another fire this year.

Maybe if they didn't waste money cleaning up after hobos and opening the door to illegals they could afford to maybe create more desalination plants or other methods of securing a resource like water for their state.

Hard to feel sympathy for people who vote for this outcome, smarten up or learn to live in a desert with no drinking water, your choice!

Seems to me that the $100 billion spent on a useless High speed train from Hollywood to Pelosi's Viking Ice cream fridge could have been spent on quite a few salt water conversion plants and maybe 2 or 3 pipelines from the water rich Northern states .
    But why use common sense

We are actually more prepared for a Bad Fire season than in the past, but it is expected. Many do not realize that much of CA is in fact irrigated desert. We rely on snowpack and mountain water along with the Colorado river.

Very soon we will be told not to water lawns or wash cars and otherwise conserve as much as possible.

I guess people will have to lay off those swimming pools.

Yeah, the farmers are having a conniption. The last drought almost depleted the ground water so this time around, where are they gonna get it? And yeah, PG&E is on their last legs.

Desalination leaves too much brine waste that gets pumped right back into the ocean. It's not there yet. The rail has nothing to do with it.

*The rail has nothing to do with it.*

But the money spent on it does.

Desalination plants supply about 60% of Israeli household water needs. It is there.
