Study says children on a vegan diet may have stunted growth and other health problems

Growing bodies need lots of protein. Meat is the best source. Also vitamin B.

Study says children on a vegan diet may have stunted growth and other health problems

A new study found that children reared on a vegan diet may have stunted growth and other health problems compared to those raised on a diet that includes meat.

The study was conducted by researchers at the University College London and the Children's Memorial Health Institute. They looked at data from healthy children ages 5 to 10 in Poland.

The study found that the children raised on a vegan diet were 3 centimeters shorter than their meat-eating counterparts. The children were also three times likely to suffer from a vitamin B deficiency.

The vegan children, however, had less body fat and better levels of cholesterol that's linked to heart disease.
The study also found that vegan children had lower bone mass and 4% to 6% lower bone mineral density. This could lead to osteoporosis in later life.

"We found the vegans had higher intakes of nutrients that indicated an 'unprocessed' type of plant -based diet, which is in turn linked to lower body fat and better cardiovascular risk profile. On the other hand, their lower intakes of protein, calcium, and vitamins B12 and D may explain their less favorable bone mineral and serum vitamin concentrations," said Dr. Małgorzata Desmond, one of the authors of the study.

The study also found that there were negative health outcomes associated with a vegetarian diet compared to a vegan diet because many of the vegetarian meals were composed of processed foods.
That is a big problem for all vegetarians, not just children.

Of course it is a Starvation Diet!

The people who claim to follow science ignore the science that says Humans are Omnivores. That is how our digestive systems and low digestive tract to brain and body weight are designed. Or a total Accident for atheists dumbshits my pardon.

Cows are Horses are real vegetarians and look at that body mass dedicated to digestion and small brains?

    Atheist dumb-$#@! weighing in.

What makes you think evolution is an accident? It is nothing more than the reproductive success of those with the best fit to the circumstances.

I believe that there is a difference between vegans and vegetarians in terms of dietary deficiencies. A vegetarian can eat dairy products, which in combination with the correct balance of vegetables and fruit, doesn't necessarily lead to nutritional deficiencies. Vegans on the other hand only consume plant proteins which are not as efficiently processed by the human body as animal protein.

There are also different types of vegetarians. Some eat eggs. Some eat fish. In those cases, there would be no gaps in your nutrition assuming you ate properly.

Also, Vegans tend to eat clean foods, while much of the vegetarian fair is highly processed crap. Look at veggie burgers. They have more ingredients in them than a 1970s TV dinner.

Anyway, children shouldn't be deprived meat. They need it. Once their bodies have developed they can safety make either choice (so long as they properly supplement.)

    That's not quite it.

Seitan, which is a vital wheat gluten product has more digestible protein than beef, but it's not a complete protein. However, by eating a variety of other foods, vegans can get all the nutrients they need.

Kids don't need meat as long as their parents feed them a well-balanced plant-based diet. The problem is that too many vegan parents don't understand what that means.

But, look at Buddhists--along with Asians and Jews, they test among the highest intellects on the planet, yet they don't consume meat, dairy, or eggs.

Well, a few will eat meat, but most won't.
