    Internet outage

    Internet outage

I am currently using my cell phone as a hot spot. One of the components of my Internet equipment (Verizon) crapped out. So I have a router near the TV in the bedroom. I have something that looks like a router up in the loft next to my desktop, but I think it acts as a range extender. The one in the bedroom is 4g and the one in the loft is 5g. They both work, I think, but they are from 2017 and probably need to be replaced.

There is another box that is fairly big in my outdoor utility closet. I am not sure what it is, but I think that is what crapped out.

Verizon can't get a tech out until Sunday late afternoon. I can't do much about it. If I wanted to change providers it would be COX, and I hear their customer service is worse than Verizon. Or satellite, and I can't easily do that with the Condo HCA rules; I likely couldn't place it anywhere useful.

I have found that with this hot spot, Edge barely performs. Brave performs much better although with some timeouts. I haven't checked my other browsers yet.

I hate it when I have net troubles, but, thankfully, those problems are rare these days. I have Rise Broadband--they beam a signal from the top of a silo in a nearby community to a receptor on my house. I download at about 30 mpbs, which is fast enough for three TVs to stream video all at the same time. So, no problems, but I'm told COX is faster, although COX customer seem pretty unhappy.

We do go through routers about once per year, however, because we have so many things connected--including a camera/security system, so it pulls a lot.

I've had to do the laptop/hotspot thing myself and I hate it.

Try turning off WiFi on your phone to see if the hotspot connects better.

I will still with Verizon for now. Only because COX will likely be worse. Those are the only hard wired options that I have.
