What's the Difference Between All the Types of Tomatoes? Beefsteak vs. cherry vs. grape vs. heirloom vs. plum.

Before we answer our guiding question—what’s the difference between beefsteak, cherry, grape, heirloom, and plum tomatoes—we have to address another one: Why are grocery-store tomatoes so bad?
There are two major categories of tomatoes: heirlooms, which we’ll cover below, and hybrids.

I had no idea there were so many!

I prefer my common Red on the Vine for burgers, sandwiches, sauces, and chili

Then I use the more solid (and cheaper) Roma chopped for tacos, burritos, salads, ect....

Amelia is the Cadillac of tomatoes. No cracking at any stage. Sweet and more meatier than any beefstake variety. Determinate.

For sheer production , Celebrity has always been the winner for me. Medium to large fruit.
    Also determinate.
No pruning. About 5 foot maximum height.
    Less pole. Less string.

When I was in East Tennessee I grew my own Cherokee tomatoes. Best tomato in the entire known universe (and I understand a few alternate ones as well)
