There is an excellent book out: River of Blood. I recommend it to people who have wanted to hear from ex-slaves themselves. Interviews were done during the FDR Works Projects on employment and these interviews are very profound.

You tell a good tale bro, just wish it was even half true. The antebellum Democrats saw African slaves as an inferior race, unable to make valid choices for themselves, and therefore could morally be held as slaves under the philosophy of Nobless Oblige in order to take care of them. The Democrats of today hold many of the same beliefs. Although they don't overtly embrace slavery they still believe in the deepest recesses of their soul that Black Americans are incapable of fending for themselves, can't or shouldn't be taught its best to stay in school, get married before having children and don't do things that will get you arrested. Democrats see them as a voting bloc with a never ending victim status. The rest of us see them as individuals with different skill levels and abilities.

There is an excellent article in this week's Epoch Times by Dinesh D'Souza entitled "Frederick Douglass Versus the 1619 project and highlights reasons why the great abolitionist leader Frederick Douglass would be against the 1619 project today". To quote "Douglass point - and Lincoln's too- is that there are two traditions in America: a tradition of enslavement and oppression, but also a tradition of emancipation and freedom." Douglass points out to the slave July 4th is a mockery but that the Declaration of Independence was a "glorious liberty document" that "must inevitably work the downfall of slavery". He said "abolish slavery tomorrow and not a sentence or syllable of the Constitution needs to be altered". He also said "The Republican party is the ship; all else is the sea.

Only 6% of whites in the south owned slaves in 1860. So that only comes out to be about 2% of Americans.
Of course their were a lot more slaves than slave owners. The numbers from the census vary between 1.4 to 1.6%. The average would be about 7 slaves per slave owner.
Slaves were expensive and not many could afford them. In today's terms the average slave cost between 50 - 80 thousand USD.
There were some that rented slaves for short periods of time from the slave owners. Maybe every farmer wanted them but they certainly could not afford them.
Moreover the only difference with the new Age Democrats is their embrace of Facism/ Marxism/Socialism/Communism. Naturally they arent open and flaming racism like they once did. Yet that doesnt change the fact of what their equity outcome is from their identity politics. Which in there they thought they could cover over with gender.

All one has to do is to track the voting patterns of White southerners before and after the Civil Rights advances of the '60s. From being strongholds of the Democratic Party, states like Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina and (for the most part) Georgia are now solidly Republican. If not for the minority populations of those states there would be even fewer people in those states affiliated with the Democratic Party.
