    Just dried some excellent Herb!

Yeah but it was Oregeno and Parsley from my garden. LOL Now if i had said that 40 years ago ......

Dried it in the oven and it worked really well. Much quicker than hanging it on the wall.

I use an Excalibur dehydrator for drying herbs.

The best way to dry your own herbs is to buy a deydrator, they are not very expensive. The retain the smell, taste and medicinal values of herbs better than other methods, like the oven....buy one theyre cheap

It works very well--the temp is lower than an oven so it takes a bit longer for the herbs to dry, but they retain more of their flavors. I also use it to dehydrate fruits. I've looked into getting a freeze-drier, but I'm not sure I can justify the price.

I've been drying herbs for a month or so. I hang most for a couple of weeks, then finish off with a 30 minute round at 200 degrees in the oven.

If it's very humid, I use the dehydrator, since high humidity can lead to molding if your air circulation is limited.

Most herbs fare better if stored 'whole', and crumbled or crushed immediately before use.

I was thinking about trying that but was concerned about mold which has happened to me in the past. I mean the wall hanging. I was not aware of the crumble as you go approach , that sounds like a great idea.

    Air circulation is vital.

I have several ways I 'hang' my herbs, but not technically up against the wall. I try for a 'clothesline' base, ie string a string between to points, and either clothespin the herbs in place, or wrap the string through the base leaves.

I also have a rig-up of two half window screens, held horizontal in a slotted wooden frame (that comes apart for storage) that works when I don't want or have the room to string the herbs up.output.jpg

Not to mention how many kids ended up buying bags of oregano.
