160th Anniversary of the First Battle of Manassas

I live about 20 miles away. Guess where I am headed?

160th Anniversary of the First Battle of Manassas

This July marks the 160th anniversary of the First Battle of Manassas, the first major land battle of the American Civil War. The park will observe this event during the weekend of July 17-18, as well as on the anniversary day, Wednesday, July 21. Each day will be filled with special talks, walks, and ceremonies.
I may post pics. It is a pain in the ass to resize them, so maybe not.

When we lived in Springfield the Manassas Battlefield was a regular go-to for walking the dogs on weekends.

It was a really good event. Lots of reenactors with kit, gear, formations, weapons, etc. It has been a few years since I have been there. Jackson's line of cannon has been reduced to two, with caissons. It used to be much larger, but wrong guns (which I told them years ago)- the south did not have rifled barreled cannons at the beginning of the war.

I will try once to post pics. If they work they work.

I talked to some of the reenactors. One asked me where I was from and whether I supported the South or the North. As is my practice overseas I try to come off as inoffensive as possible in politics. I said I was from the south and who knows with being raised in that environment, but I would like to think that I would have fought for the North.

He laughed and reminded me that South Carolina was the only southern state that didn't have people fighting for the north. Then I pull my save card: my family didn't get to the US until the 1890s. We didn't have a side.

And all confederate flags are gone. Even from Stonewall Jackson's line.

My ancestors fought for both sides, but most of them fought for the south.

Why are we behaving so stupid!

Does anyone recall that when we forget History we are condemned to repeat it?
