In the 1960s--and yes, I am old enough to remember that quite well--there was a bumper sticker that read, "Get the UN out of the US / And get the US out of the UN."

At the time, that was met with derision by The Enlightened Class.

    Nowadays, it seems increasingly appropriate...

LOL. The UN would collapse because we fund it.

However, please kick us out. Please please please.

For many years , the US gained substantial influence over UN decisions , bought by their excessive funding . That influence seems to have declined since the illegal invasion of Iraq by the US led Coalition of the Willing , and has continued to decline since , because of US decisions.......the funding will be replaced by those who still have faith in the belief that all nations can be united , and run by the principals of international law........US unilateral law does not work for anyone but the US (and Israel)

He is forgetting China's violation of the International Law of the Sea treaty and the International courts findings on that. They think the South China Sea is their lake. But it is international waters.

Law of the Sea Treaty is a Western written document and no longer completely relevant to the current situation . I don't entirely agree with the extent of China's nine-dash line , and think it should be altered to take in the needs of all countries in the region with credible claims - however , there are other things at play here , possibly of a more urgent nature for Asia as a whole ...and that is protecting Asia and in particular , the South China Sea region from US destabilizing influence ......and China is the only country capable of doing that .

It will take the Middle East hundreds of years to recover from what the US has done to it ........that shyit is not needed in Asia or the South Pacific .

The US is only potentially destabilizing. That is what China fears. The US Navy could block China's access to the Pacific if it wanted to. But the Navy is to busy keeping sea lanes open and free for all.
