    Who advised Biden on Afghanistan?

And where is their responsibility here? The Secretary of Defence for example? CAI? Joint chiefs? It seems like with a mistake this big, if it was a mistake, there is much blame to circulate

Jake Sullivan, the national security adviser

    Secretary of State Antony Blinken

    Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin

    Other Cabinet.

Pentagon and intelligence agencies. Army Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

    Probably more.

Could they all really be this wrong? Or is the game a foot?

Without looking at it in detail, it is my impression that there was plenty of disagreement and even dissension among advisors but Biden put it all together as a consensus, sort of like climate crisis consensus. He heard what he wanted to hear and disregarded the rest.

It could well be that he was presented with a consensus. IOW, there was dissension in the ranks but top advisors filtered it out. Again, just my impression.

How could they all have been so wrong?

But let's not forget that Biden wanted to just pull out when he was VP for Obama as well.

I suspect he felt the Military was disobeying him, so he just told them to do it.
And this was their way of paying him back and hoping he would have to move them back in. Don't forget that the Military also bucked Trump on this numerous times.

That makes a lot of sense but my cynism remains. Was this packaged as way to get some other action justified to the people?

The Secretary of Defense looks to be in over his head as does General Milley.

Yes, kind of. I know that in my lifetime every time the government steps in it their excuse is incompetence at a Barney Fife/Reno 911 level. From Ruby Ridge to too big to fail, WMD's in Iraq, mission leap in Afghanistan and now bring the troops home before the evac.
I have a hard time believing that these people are that incompetent. That ANYONE is that incompetent. Ruby Ridge was to punish Weaver for not playing ball and Russian mob tactics were applied to Mrs. Weaver. Too big to fail is payola and nation building is likely heavy payola but also political points and some believe Hussein was going to start making a play to trade oil in non-American dollars. Plus we needed a base in the ME because dependence upon foreign oil.

But this one I'm not sure , time will tell. I know I sound out there but nobody is as dumb as government sometimes pretends to be.
