The mind-melting science of what shrooms do to your brain...

No one’s exactly sure why psilocybin makes you see goats in your bathroom, but it might have something to do with how your brain processes reality

The human brain goes into full weirdo mode after a handful of shrooms. It forgets how time works. It turns blank walls into geometrical works of art. It makes you believe the cucumber in your fridge is an actual God. (Or was that just me?) But why? What do shrooms do to your brain? It’s a complicated question, one that will challenge your perception of reality.

The surface-level explanation, according to researcher and philosopher Chris Letheby, author of Philosophy of Psychedelics, is that psilocybin, the psychedelic compound in magic mushrooms, stimulates serotonin 2A receptors in your brain. In a way we don’t yet fully understand, this induces the psychedelic effects commonly associated with mushies — hallucinations, transcendence of time and space, whatever’s going on between my cucumber and me.

If you have ever had Lucid dreams you will understand your brain has a capacity to create a very vivid artificial reality. I suspect some of these effects are cross over states of mind.

For at least half a century the potential healing powers of hallucingens has been gleemed but under investgated. Mr V knows far more about this topic than do I but I haven't seen him post in a while.
Here is an article about the potential applications if traeting addiction and mental health.

Or not. I'll try to find a less shy article on the topic. Found it.

My understanding of the nature of hallucinogenics in general, is that they make the electrical impulses in the synapse misfire (depending on the dosage) hence the misreading of input...Spent some time at a music festival in my tent swatting bats (good times those, and I mean that sincerely). I am very interested in the concept of "micro-dosing" as a means to combat depression and anxiety...

Lucid dreams actually give the dreamer control over actions in the dream. I have them once in a while and they re very interesting, how it works I couldn't tell you, but I suppose that they are tied in some way to the effects of psychedelics in that you feel yourself in an alternate reality.
