Interestingly enough, I've always had American Shorthairs before, wonderful cats. Then came Hoover, an obnoxious bully (a black shorthair), but he showed up one day and that was that. He terrorized Einstein, our sweet, easy going American Shorthair. When Einstein passed, that left us with Hoover, and we figured we wouldn't get another cat until Hoover passed. He has mellowed a bit, but still not an affection cat.
Then at the work flop house (so I don't have to do an hour plus commute everyday) came Hussie. A neighborhood cat, or kitten of the neighborhood cat, who I thought was a female (the long hair hid the obvious junk, lol) and discovered she was a he. Affectionate, sweet tempered, he's my companion during the work week.
