An idea ... Assuming that the pain causes a mobility problem that is the strength of your complaint... complain about immobility... get them concentrating on that...
if they ask about pain, tell them and then add a BUT the immobility is the biggest problem...
Maybe that will get them on your side a bit ??? -shrug-

I have a book about the McKenzie Method, and I was surprized it actually helped somewhat.

I know I can't be on hydrocodone forever, byut can't get off cold turkey either.
You probably have both neuropathic pain as well as pain from arthritic changes, which is inflammatory pain. Unfortunately there isn't much that treats neuropathic pain. My hubby has serious back issues and he takes an SNRI called pregabalin also known as Lyrica, which is effective for neuropathic pain, but when you take it you get very drowsy, so it really helps with sleeping but you don't want to take it during the daytime. (SNRIs are generally used as antidepressants but are also effective for neuropathic pain.) He's been off opioids for a few years now and now, because he had a kidney transplant just over a year ago, he's really restricted as far as regular pain meds are concerned, so all he can take is Tylenol. He's going to be seeking a surgical solution, once all of this Covid business has settled down. You have more options, insofar as pain meds are concerned. Have you tried anti-inflammatories? Have you tried taking a combination of acetaminophen with ibuprofen? Is surgery an option? Have you tried cortisone injections in your back and neck? They didn't work for my husband but they do work for some people.
In quoting my post, you affirm and agree that you have not been goaded, provoked, emotionally manipulated or otherwise coerced into responding.

    Wild Opium Lettuce (Lactuca serriola)

Opium lettuce grows throughout the world in various backyards and near roadsides. It loves to grow near asphalt. The plant is usually considered to be an invasive weed, and it certainly is the ugliest of the plants mentioned herein. When its leaves are scored, they release a milky sap. This sap mimics opium, hence its common name, "wild opium lettuce" or simply "opium lettuce". The plant's leaves are broken from the plant and scratched to release the sap. Then the sap is collected. It is a type of natural latex which is typically formed into pill-like balls. These can be directly consumed as pills, or smoked inside of a pipe. Opium lettuce is often reported to cause a numbing sensation that is felt spreading throughout the body. This feeling is particularly noticeable when the lettuce is smoked. It does not usually impart a euphoric or a "high" feeling.

There are few studies of opium lettuce in the Western world, but researchers in Iran have confirmed that opium lettuce was well known as a painkiller and sedative before the Victorian period. Thus, it is likely that it has been used for eons. In the paper, Lettuce, lactuca sp. as a Medicinal Plant in Polish Publications of the 19th Century, the Institute for the History of Science affirmed, "The action of the substance was weaker than that of opium, but free of the side-effects, and medical practice showed that in some cases lactucarium produced better curative effects than opium". Despite opium lettuce not containing opium, it has multiple characteristics that are similar to it. In addition to its pain-relieving properties, it is also known for assisting with coughs. It has even been used successfully in the mitigation of whooping cough (pertussis) symptoms.

The Servall Company published a catalog of medicinal plants in 1917, which was entitled Health from Field and Forest. It stated that opium lettuce was "highly esteemed to quiet coughing and allay nervous irritation, a good safe remedy to produce sleep, to be used when opium and other narcotics are objectionable". When it was written, codeine and opium were still widely available without a prescription. Both were considered to be safe and effective medicines, yet opium lettuce was known to be even safer.

Eating large doses of opium lettuce can cause nausea, vomiting, anxiety, and dizziness. So, it is probably best not to use it in a salad. The powdered leaves lack most of the effects of the sap, though the powder has a history of being used to remedy sunburns.

I've always called that, "milk weed."

I had two back surgeries around 2010 2011 and took pain pills. I haven't taken them for years now but was on them around 2 years. As long as you have pain and not abusing them, you will be fine. It's the people who get better and still use them are the ones who get hooked. What made me mad was the government coming down on Cancer Dr.s giving people pain meds that have less than two years to live. He didn't stop giving prescriptions to me for my husband but told me how the government would threaten them.

My problem is, I do not smoke, so I would need to find a source for some edibles.
Only air goes into my lungs.

I also found the recipe for Appleby's Bahama Mamma $#@!tail.
gotta get some grenadine, banana liquer, and some coconut rum and clear rum.

All I have is dark rum for my GROG.

When I have a good buzz, I am pain free for a bit and sleep good too.

Major drawback is I can't shut up. Blah, blah, bl;ah..

I have some Lyrica and take it every 12 hours.
I also take twp 500mg Tylenol and four IBs every six hours.
Sometimes i even add some kratom in the mix

Then it comes right back in two to three houirs.

Helicopter crashes tend to mess your spine and neck up pretty bad.

at least I still have my good looks.

Hydrocondone is the only thing that makes me feel normal.

Maybe I should go back with my friends the Tjiks. Plenty of opium there.
The Taliban are scared of them and they get all the support they need from Iran.
They knew the US would eventually pull out, so went with Iran instead.
Their territories share a border with Iran.
    Their area is Taliban free.

(now where did I put my shemagh)

    Etsy to the rescue.

I found capsules and tinctures and ordered both.

No matter how off-the-wall, you can find some old hippie on Etsy making it.
