    Hiking 08.25.2021

Decided to try something different. Near my house are high tension towers running north-south. Google maps satellite shows a dirt road along it.

So hiked that this morning but didn't get far before the dirt road choked up with weeds waste high and wet with morning dew.

Might be able to get through or over the fence and up a ways looks less weedy. Maybe another day.

Ended up walking the neighborhood. The app I have says I walked a mile and a half and climbed 120 up: I live near a creek so it's uphill either way...and downhill coming back!

Downhill is always worse for me. You use muscles that you almost never use.
The trails in the mountains might have been a little steeper.

Gimme some good ole flatland, water, or the beach. Lol.

That's true, with a steep enough decline, each step becomes a jolt to muscle and ligament. I remember that in the Rockies and the Appalachians. Here, it's a slight decline, 120 feet down over half a mile.

What you are doing is commendable Chris. Keep it up. Walking/hiking can be a great catharsis in addition to the obvious physical benefits.

    Good on you.

    Good on you.

One reason I post it, and tell others, is to motivate myself to keep doing it. It is a catharsis, every little hike, and good physically. It also tells me how old I've gotten physically.

And I hope it encourages others.

We still have some undeveloped power line areas around here. Some sections of them are used by professional gardeners to grow plants.

For me it's the knees. We both have bad knees and poor shock absorbtion. 9 or 10 years ago the wife and I hiked two Adirondack high peaks in one day ( they shared part of the trail)_ and when we got back to the car we both felt that we could of done even more. The hike was 6 or 7 miles and we agreed that we could have done another 6 ot 7...... feet. We were more than ready for the cardio going up. But...
We were destroyed mostly from coming down that hard scrabble trail. It was too much to fast but we will never forget it. We stopped in a nice Adirondack town and ordered huge dinners and stiffened up so we could barely walk. We just had them box it all up and went home to suffer for a couple of days. LOL
