    How to socialize feral kittens

This crew was living in a pile of furniture behind an apartment building in Brooklyn, NY.
It's a very common scene during the summer months - so what do you do?

This video walks through the steps you can follow to socialize younger kittens who are around 2-3 months old.
Make sure you take a TNR class (trap neuter return) before using traps (visit flatbushcats.org/tnr for more info).

Kittens are easy. They are still used to being dependent.
The older ones are long term projects. It takes a long time to get their trust.

    I like feral cats.
    Because they're feral.

Have one that visits/strolls through the barn 3-4 times a week.
It's relaxed about people but won't be approached closer than 3 feet.

It's a strong hunter; feeds himself and keeps rodents away.

If I ever trap it, it'd get a trip to the vet for a rabies shot and then returned here to his happy hunting grounds.

    Happy day to ya' M

My companion at the work flop house, was a kitten of the neighborhood cat. Not quite feral, but not social either.

He has become quite tame with me, but of course I started taming him when he was just a few months old. He tolerates other people in very limited doses at about 3 feet away. He'll sleep on the bed, snuggle, expose his belly around just me.

I'm wrapped around his little paw.

My friend who once worked at a campground managed to semi-tame an adult feral cat. But it was still extremely shy about strange people and refused to sleep indoors. It got within five feet of me on visits, but only to eat!
