Only irritation so far is having to enter my password for any changes.

    Easy peazy.
If you don't mind using the CLI, you can run as root (enter your password once) and the install all the programs you want... Only catch is that you need to know the names of the programs. A capital letter or one letter off and it won't find the package.

No real issues with installing apps, except one, a password manager that I depend heavily on.

A real issue has arisen. The old laptop can handle the OS running Chrome with a few tabs open but I usually operate with several windows open, one for forum and news, one for email, messages, etc, and maybe a third to explore how to do something or what to buy. I tried that today and this old laptop was brought to its knees. I think the issue is not enough RAM so it starts swapping to harddrive and thrashes because so many open active URLs.

So it's time to explore buying a new computer...

My old laptop running Linux froze up. Was doing a lot of browsing but keeping tabs to a minimum but it still froze up.

Perhaps some of your memory is bad. Have you run a systems diagnostic?

Nah, just set it aside for now.

Found a Lenovo ThinkPad C13 Yoga Chromebook (13”) for $1,099 half off ready to ship in a few days. I've had good luck with Lenovos.

One thing I noticed with desktops was once you start configuring them you have to wait 2-3 months to get them. Wonder if it's the chip shortage affecting cars and truck?

Could be. They tend to be built locally. Perhaps the laptops are assembled in Asia.

Lenovo used to be IBM. I think China bought them out. Makes me a traitor!

Yea, I track all that. Amazon, UPS, FedEx because it's dropped by the door, and USPS because they lose things--wonder why I track them, they never find it.
