16-month-old girl mauled to death by dog in Akron, police say

A baby girl died Sunday after she was attacked by at least one dog at a home in Akron, police said.

The incident happened about 10:30 a.m. at a house on the 300 block of Westmoreland Street in the city’s Firestone Park neighborhood, Akron police spokesman Lt. Michael Miller said. Responding officers found a 16-month-old girl severely injured at the home. She was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital, where she died, Miller said.

Investigators learned that there was a fight between two adults at the home. Neither the man nor woman involved in the argument are the girl’s parents. During the argument, at least one of the dogs in the home – described as pit bulls by Akron police – “became agitated” and mauled the baby, Miller said.

That's horrific. Poor little thing.

And, odd.

They don't say who the adults were, but they weren't her parents, and they had a "fight" that got the dogs "agitated."

The dogs will be euthanized, of course, and an autopsy is being done. Something bad happened in that house, maybe something more than we know right now...
