He lost the game Chargers game, and then lost to the Bears. He has a pretty pricey contract. So I figure they probably had this story as an insurance policy when they offered him such an attractive package. I wonder what they had to pay to get him to take a hike without litigation.

At any rate, I almost never believe the official story for anything anymore. It's just too stupid to fire someone over that. They have Richie Incognito playing on their offensive line for God sake!

In this era, I think all of this was known before he was even hired. It would have come out when he was hosting Monday Night Football, but it didn't. It came out when the Raiders decided they wanted out of an expensive contract. What makes you think the Raiders wanted him out? The NFL commissioner was behind this.

Now it's multiple e-mails calling Goddell a "$#@!" and a "$#@!" for pushing for Jeff Fisher to "draft $#@!s" sharing topless photos of a Redskin's cheerleader and bashing female refs apparently. Plus the thick lips comment.
I'd love to feel sorry for him but none of that is stuff I would of put in an e-mail in a professional exchange in 2001 much less 2011. To a buddy on his home e-mail maybe, definitely that picture if I had it but not in anything that could wind up in a professional library FOREVER. I think his credibility with the players is gone and he knows it. It is too bad that there isn't some kind of statute of limitations on cancelling but their ain't.
To paraphrase a saying: he played stupid games and lost tens of millions!
