Cool College Football Head Coach Salaries

    College Football Head Coach Salaries

Ok folks... here it is: The 2021 list of College Football Head Coaches Salaries. https://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/sal...football/coach Naturally, Satan leads the list at $9.5, but the kid from Kent State (him, not me) has won a pelosi-ton of football games. Long gone are the days when coaches like Woody Hayes refused raises.

The university itself generally only pays the coach a token salary. Just enough to be legit in calling them an employee of the school. The salaries are usually paid by the booster clubs which raise the money.

When the big money boosters want a coach fired he’s in trouble. Of course this often depends on the buy-out clause of the contract.
When the people find that they can vote themselves money, that will herald the end of the republic.“ - Benjamin Franklin.

Nick Saban's base salary is $275,000 a year, and some about $800,000 in incentives. The rest is typically funded from revenue generated by the University's rights deals and sponsorships and booster organizations. As an aside the year before Saban was hired all sports revenue at Alabama generated about $67M, in 2020 it $189M

I wonder what percentage of their total earnings these amounts are.

Because New England was not a college sports area when I grew up there, I don't know how it used to work.
But when I moved to Lexington KY, they hired Pitino. His salary was only something like 600,000 but he made millions in endorsements and it seemed like every form of business in town had Pitino attached to it.
I believe he made about 4.5 million the year before he left but the coaching salary was not even 20% of what he earned.

The doc I go to probably makes 200 grand and the nurses that actually keep you alive in the hospital maybe 40% of that. I mean the pros are one thing but colleges are playing with tuition money not investments. I know they bring in more that's why Syracuse left the Big East taking their bad football team to where they could make more money to the detriment of their good basketball team. So much for playing for school pride and the student body? LOL

Grouch: I hear the football coach gets five times as much salary as the Greek professor. Isn't that quite a discrepancy?

Student: Oh, I dunno. Did you ever hear 40,000 people cheering a Greek recitation?

Quite often, in a major college football powerhouse, the university only pays a small percentage of a coache's salary. The big booster clubs pay which raise huge sums of money often pay the big salaries.

Alabama Football brought in 177 million in 2019.
OSU brings in close to 100 million.

I think these schools are doing quite fine and are not stealing any tuition money.
