The U.S. could power the World with solar panels.

Human caused global warming is not only a reality, but it is speeding up. So something must be done. Something environmentally friendly like solar panels. Just think of it. We could be the new Saudi Arabia of electricity. Though not impossible, distributing that power to the world would be a little difficult. I will show you a picture of the U.S. and the total area of solar panels we would need to do it. They don't have to be all in one spot. And I think we have enough basically useless desert area in the U.S. to do it.

I will also show you a second picture of the U.S. and the total area it would take to power just the U.S. It shows a square area about 140 miles per side. But Elon Musk thinks it could be done with a total square area that is only 100 miles per side. And with his engineering abilities having made him a multi billionaire, you shouldn't be so quick to discount what he says.

We need better batteries and grid changes to make solar more than a local event.

DARPA is working on a program to put solar in space and beam energy to stations on earth.

    False on both accounts.
Power always thinks it has a great soul, and vast views, beyond the comprehension of the weak. And that it is doing God service when it is violating all His laws.

The batteries we already have work pretty good. And just as with solar panels themselves, the technology is improving all the time. Though there are other ways to store excess energy. Such as capacitors or a large perfectly balanced spinning disk. On a large scale I have heard of using heated sodium to store excess energy. Which in off hours could be used to turn water into steam to run electric turbines. Somebody once told me that they can also use sulfur to do the same thing. But I haven't looked into that.

As for transmitting power, maybe it could be done wirelessly. Like Tesla wanted to do. Until J P Morgan pulled the funding for the project. It might also be possible to use Masers bounced off satellites to transmit power around the world. If it could be done in a diffuse enough of a manner as to not harm wildlife or heat the atmosphere.

It sounds like you were lost before I said anything. There is absolutely no doubt that global warming is caused by the activities of humans. And deserts are basically worthless. Every square mile of forest has thousands of more life forms than a square mile of desert has. And if you want to bring things like bugs and microbes into it, then were talking in the many trillions more range.

I've read your, same "sales pitch" on a different forum. ...

Is 'denier cult' the opposite of 'fantasy power cult'?

    Ironic.

I was about to say the same thing about the alarmist cult that you belong to.

No amount of evidence will ever persuade you that your doomsday cult is based on wild exaggerations, deliberate distortions of data, and obtuse refusal to consider any solution that doesn't involve raising taxes.

No amount of eminent scientists questioning your religion will cause you to rethink your position. You're just another dumb fanatical "liberal" who repeats whatever propaganda the government shoves in your face.

For the record I have no problem with market based alternative energy approaches that actually work and do not require massive tax payer giveaways and forced implementation.

The DARPA Plan sounds interesting and I am also aware of some potential for other experimental alternatives, but we are talking nothing practical for some time.
