I worked around them for a few years. Had to have large piping fab jobs flown in .
Sometimes 100 feet up or more.
I never took my eyes off of the product being flown in even with the best operators and riggers.
Didn't want to get mashed to death or crushed.

Experts in their field!
They fly stuff in blind from maybe 2 units away and can't see the target in the day or night. I only worked nights.
Riggers guide them in after securing the load properly.
It's truly amazing to see a whole expansion loop or set of 24 inch headers being guided into place with the help of fitters and welders narrowing the placement into alignment and position.
Never saw a crane accident.
I saw a guy mash his buddy in a scissor-lift basket. Wanted to go down but went up. His buddy didn't make it.
Not the company I was working for. The plant ran them out that night and we had to take up the slack of another 200 workers(100day/100night working for them) .
It was not pleasant then or after.
If you had an untied shoelace you were fired on the spot.
And if you were working up high, you had better have some extra earplugs in your pocket. If a plant safety man came around and you lost an earplug and were working without 2, they took your badge and escorted you straight to the gate.
