Pull that sucker out, rub some dirt on it and shove it back in. You'll be good for another 20 years.

Guys and gals, thank you all sincerely, for the kind thoughts and words of wisdom, virtually all of it true. Yesterday was hard on me, overcome with tears, facing not death, but seemingly overwhelming tasks. What had been described as a crossing guard like safety strap, was more like a straight jacket, with a young, ambitious EMT ready to rub the pads together and yell "Clear!" Hugs from gals, will have to become fist pumps, to protect from being jolted as well. On top of the vest, is getting the homestead ready to go. I was thinking yesterday, just don't return here at all, go to a small, furnished apartment, get "Meals on Wheels" and call it a day. The meds seemed overwhelming as well. I had to acquire a blood pressure machine and scale, record the readings three times a day and perhaps alter my meds based on the results, some of which require 1/2 pills...an art I've yet to master. I definitely had the blues.

But alas, today was a new day and I slept almost as much last night as the last eight days combined. My son says I shouldn't drive for the sake of others so I enlisted an local old HS buddy to chauffeur my ass. We stopped at my mechanic's store and he arranged for the junk yard to come haul my 2005 GMC p/u away. It's only got about 127,000 miles, but the body is rusting away, the tires won't hold air (aluminum wheels), the transmission won't hold fluid and the brake system is in the same shape. We went to eat lunch at Frich's, had a great across the bar discussion with another old fart with a "Golf Shores" t-shirt and a great attitude. Had to buy his lunch. We talked about how we were born at the perfect time, things we did as kids, where we worked and foods we ate, but maybe hated. My buddy and I were leaving first. Almost to the Dan's truck, I remembered the last food question which had all three of us stumped. Back in the store, I put my hand out and said, "fruit cake". He had already discovered I bought his meal, including covering the tip, just in case he forgot to leave something. Biggest smile I saw all day. You can't have enough good friends, even at our old fart age.

Next and final stop was the local coffee/homemade candy store where I purchased seven or eight hundred bucks of treats to be delivered to the folks that cared so well for me. I've termed it, "post bribery".

On the way, I realized that my live has somewhat become, "Groundhog Day." I wasn't promised anything, but perhaps five more years. So anything from this juncture on is, "what if there were no consequences?" I see zero reason not to stay up late. Normally I crashed by 8 or 9, but hey, I'm just not all that tired...or I'm dead tired and just don't know it. Damn this is liberating! So thank you all for picking up my spirits and I'm listening to Cletus who obviously feels just like I do. "I'm taking names and kicking ass." "Five more years" is like telling me I couldn't, after almost 50 years, quit smoking "cold turkey". Eight months in the bag already.
