Retailers are telling customers to keep items instead of returning them. Here’s why

Big retailers are letting customers keep items they want to return to avoid paying for shipping.

Now dishonest people will order stuff, call to return, and keep it. If enough people do that, I suspect that will hurt a lot of retailers.

So if you had visions of copping a new flat-screen out of the deal, think more along the price point of fidget spinners.

And don’t go too crazy, or you may get banned from Amazon for filing too many returns.”

A great deal of error seems to be written off these days. I know someone who had a very expensive laptop delivered and paid on his credit card. Turned out theft was involved but some fool did not change the shipping address for this one item it would seem. Other expensive items also appeared on his bill.

Later on the card company called back to let him know it was taken care of and a new card issued. They asked if he returned the laptop which he was more than willing to do, but they said that's OK you can keep it. Obviously the company ate the charges!

This does open a door for a lot of fraud...

My mom ordered some crap to wash clothes manually. (For some reason, she doesn't like to go down to the laundry room in her building) The thing arrived and was defective... When I called the company, they just shipped the new one and told me to do whatever I wanted with the defective piece... Even then I thought that this is a door opening to abuse.

Go to one of the "prepper" retailers like Camping Survival if you want good stuff like that.
