The wreath does not symbolize the birth of Jesus of Nazareth.
As far as people losing their minds in the example you cited... If they are so ignorant, bigoted and narrow minded, let them lose their minds. They obviously are not using them anyway.

You did it. You drove me to research wreaths, and I'm glad I did. They have a surprisingly long and rich history. TIME does a nice work-up.
I suppose if someone associates wreaths with Christmas they could possibly be offended, but that's a pretty thin-skinned reaction.
It's the "Christian gang" wording that's odd.

I agree, but it almost seems as though we're encouraging people to be overly sensitive these days. I think the wreaths look pretty and add a respectful touch, but if I didn't want one on a loved one's grave, I would just set it aside. Like Cletus, I'm not religious, but if I went to our local cemetery and saw all the gravestones had a wreath/flag/flowers except my father's, I might feel left out.
For what it's worth, I think it's best to err on the side of inclusion. But, that's just me.

Religion is one of those 'delicate' areas with people. For those of non-Christian faiths, they are already inundated with Christmas traditions that are woven into the culture. Finding a Christmas wreath on the grave of a loved one might be the last straw for some.
