What makes you think it’s manufactured outrage? Are black people and players pretending to outraged by racism in all its forms? They’re pretending to be outraged when a black kid is killed by police or is racially profiled? That doesn’t make sense. Clearly racism is still an issue and many people want to discuss and change that.
Sure, the NFL is a business and entertainment. But just like all businesses, they’re free to use that platform and influence as they like. If oil and gas companies can help craft legislation, I don’t see why a sports organization can’t discuss social issues.
And just like all businesses, if you don’t like it, don’t patronize it.
