My proposal for the NFL

Seriously I have no issue with helmets or head contact being forbidden.

But todays NFL is so top heavy with penalties making what was once a contact sport into playground rules. It has been neutered to the point where the slightest contact gets called and inconsistently!

What needs to football:


1. Do away with the "fair catch". If you don't want to be hammered into a $#@!ty mudhole when you catch the ball, don't catch the ball.

2. Do away with quarterbacks "spiking" the ball. It's intentional grounding. Penalize them.

3. Do away with taking a knee in the end zone on a kick. You're being paid untold millions to play football. Act like it.

4. Do away with quarterbacks "sliding" when they run. If you don't want to be hammered into a $#@!ty mudhole when you run with the ball, don't run with the ball.


Those changes would make the game more exciting...

I'm really on the fence on this.

I was friends with Junior Seau of the San Diego CHargers (and later the Dolphins and the Patriots). Surprisingly, he was never diagnosed as having suffered a concussion, but He had more concussions than he could count, and it really $#@!ed him up. Did it lead to his suicide? I have to believe it played a role. You don't do what he did for that long and not suffer a degree of brain damage. In his case, his brain showed definite signs of a condition known as CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy). It's not really known if it increases any risk of suicide.

I think if head-to-head contact can be mitigated, that could be a good thing...

I agree . I like old school football where QB's etc got hammered like nails instead of tiptoeing around a guy like Mahomes making $45 million a year

Agreed. The helmets cause more brain damage that they prevent. i played a lot of sandlot football has a kid without helmets and we NEVER led with our heads
