Their was a helicopter crash right after she took command. Not sure if that would affect the Captain or the CAG when the investigation is over. 5 dead.

It was apparently a mechanical issue with the helicopter: 31 Aug 2021 (IVO San Diego, CA) MH-60S touched down onboard CVN-72. Experienced side-to-side vibrations causing main rotor to strike flight deck. A/C fell over side. Mishap_Stats090121.pdf (navy.mil)

Thanks. I heard there was damage to the flight deck, but the article that I linked to didn't mention that.

I have seen commander's relieved for things which were beyond their control. I once had a commander relieved for something which hapoened before he took command.

Then there was a possible problem with the maintenance section here. I've seen and heard of commanders being relieved for issues like that.

The Navy is worse than the Army for things like that. Maybe the Woke Army is catching up.

I had a company commander relieved for something which happened months prior to him assuming command and he was in another battalion at the time.

Was it the USS McCain where the captain was relieved due to the collision that killed I think 7 sailors? He wasn't on the bridge, he was asleep prior to his next shift, and injured in the collision.
