First Woman To Command A Nuclear Carrier.

I wonder how much pressure she's under to be a successful commander? Will she be held to the same standards as a male commander?

I can't imagine why she would be held to a different standard...

So you're thinking that she will be held to a higher standard? That seems unlikely.

I'm sure the Navy wants to point to her command as a success. There have been countless successful male commanders of a nuclear carrier. So far no females. She will be afforded every opportunity to achieve that success.

I can. The Navy doesn't want her to be a failure. That would be an embarrassment to the navy leadership who selected her. I can easily see them giveing her a break that they would not give a traditional male commander.

In today's military readiness has been somewhat subordinated to a form of social justice.

And that is why we hope she is in fact fully qualified and capable of the job.

Maybe then maybe not, and that is the problem with AA and Social Justice engineering. Thomas Sowell observed AA causes seeds of doubt about personal ability that might not be justified, and that perception is not fair to those women and minorities who can earn what they deserve by merit.

Trained as a helicopter pilot, Bauernschmidt served with the "Wolfpack" of HSL-45 on the destroyer USS John Young and the "Warlords" of HSL-51 on the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk. She later served as executive officer and then commanding officer of the "Spartans" of HSM-70 on the aircraft carrier USS George H. W. Bush. In September 2016, after completing nuclear power school, Bauernschmidt became the executive officer of USS Abraham Lincoln. On 5 August 2019, she assumed command of the amphibious transport USS San Diego. On 19 August 2021, Bauernschmidt became the commanding officer of USS Abraham Lincoln.

On January 3, 2022, the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln deployed from Naval Air Station North Island under the command of Capt. Amy Bauernschmidt.

That's a Hell of a lot of command experience. If she can keep from being sabotaged by the inevitable (and thankfully small) "No Girls Allowed" contingent one finds in most Navy commands, she ought to have smooth sailing.

With that much command experience, I don't think that she's the poster child for AA, as implied in this thread and as the former XO of that same vessel, I assume that she would have been on the short list for succession.

Then let’s hope that she can lead / command to the standards expected and if she can’t, she’ll be treated like every other commander who can’t.
