    B12 is great. You might also consider B9. If you have the MTHFR gene allele that makes you tired or irritable when you are deficient in B9/B12, supplementing them will definitely make you feel better. I think Swanson vitamins has a single capsule with both of them.

    Do you absorption issues? If not, eat some meat. A single duck egg, for example, has around 60% of the RDA.

    As I age I assume I have more trouble retaining what vitamins and minerals I do ingest

    Food is the best source. Supplementation next if you don't eat right, have digestion issues, lifestyle choices that sap certain nutrients, or specific health goals.

    I wouldn't focus too much on the recommended daily allowance, unless your goal is not health but getting just enough ahead to not get a disease related to a deficiency.
