Retail sales plunged 1.9% in December......

Retail sales plummeted by 1.9% in December after several months of consecutive increases, the Commerce Department reported Friday.

The report was far worse than expectations, with the consensus among economists being that retail sales would actually increase slightly. Additionally, the November gain was revised down a bit to 0.2%.

"Loss in momentum in November turned into a sharp weakening in December," noted Rubeela Farooqi, the chief U.S. economist for High Frequency Economics.

The stock market was down after Friday’s report following news of the retail sales numbers and a mixed set of bank earnings......snip~

One thing the Repubs can do once they have the Senate and the House. Is to allow Hungary to come and arrest Soros.

Why would anyone today, go to a big box store fight the crowd, maybe fight a few people that are being bullies and then have to stand online FOREVER to check out...when

You can sit on your ass, view dozens of retiailers find what you want, pay less have it delivered right to your door...

How can you beat that...Retailers incessantly whine that the internet is killing them...its the entire experience in box stores anymore....Walmart if you shop for boxed and closed items then go to check out HALF or more of the checkouts on that side of the store are CLOSED you have to walk to the other side of the store in wait in line until your icecream melt...Why do they do that, they are trying to FORCE everyone to using self checkouts and they close as many registers as they can to save wages.

I will NEVER self check out, I pay for the food and items, I am there to BUY, I am not an employee of walmart and its not my function to assure they make as much money as possible by INCONVENIENCING ME....so I refuse to go to walmart...I dont need to go to walmart for anything, I can anything in that store online or have it delivered...Food Shopping in walmart sucks...I go to publics and win dixies and its so much a better experience..but their shelves are sparse also

I get most things non-grocery online.

If my ice cream was melting in line I would place it in the most obnoxious place possible and leave it there.

You cannot sell what you do not have and higher prices do not help.

It also does not help when a former Walmart CEO says that shelves in stores look like the former Soviet Union.
