Unless you have a really high metabolism, very true. When I was younger I couldn't gain weight!

For most, exercise is a small part of losing weight. That is why I said above that if I had to chose between cardio or weights I would pick weights. Lean muscle mass is a key to maintain weight loss after you get it off.

I think a bit of excess weight only became an issue for me in my mid-30s.

And it doesn't matter what you eat for weight loss. But for health it certainly does.

Honestly, I think it really depends on what you enjoy. I agree with Ethereal that consistency is key. If you don't enjoy it it will become a chore and before long you'll be looking for excuses not to do it.

Yeah, weight lifting will build that base of muscle that will increase your metabolism over time. That's true.

Having no impact on your muscles and joints is a big plus. The only problem with swimming is that you can't just do it anywhere. Most of us are strictly limited in that respect.

I've been running for over half of my adult life but I don't recommend it for people are are overweight.

You really need to get into healthy eating habits all the time rather than crash dieting that is in truth unhealthy. People who lose a lot of weight then return to the same bad habits that put it back on are not doing themselves a favor.

I found that smaller portions and no more late night snacking did a lot for me as I got older. I can still eat the stuff I enjoy and even fast food on occasion.

Along with working out religiously every other day...every 2 weeks taking 2 days off...
The old gym I went to for along time down here had to close for covid and never re opened.

I belong to planet fitness now...Do I like it, not really, I like the dingy sweat shops of old but theyre gone the last one close to that was my old gym...Planet fitness is good for Old goats and pretty boys and girls that want to show off their new gym attire and take selfies...I ignore all that...did I mention its dirt cheap at 10 bucks a month
For me it's all about what program works best for me to limit my overactive eating of sweets/grain carbs. Not just calories in and out but what program best enables me to do that. Most will work for someone but what will work for me?

None of these fad diets work any better than normal diets but I would advise you to do what works. You're doing well on a low carb diet? Keep going.
