I wish they would use them on food packaging so if you want to see the ingredients list, you can bring it up on your phone in a font size that isn't intended for postage stamps.

Largely an age thing. The electronic world used to offer "old fashioned" options but as we old folks die off there are less options for the rest of us. Personally if a restaurant wants business they can ring me out and I detest self check out. But the world spins on. For example it seems to me that Walmart and big box stores have less and less staffed checkout lanes staffed with less and less competent people
