I was paying my way by working for Winn Dixie as a bag boy for $1.25 per hour working no more than 25 hours a week so they were a god send. A big date was a $2.00 pizza and a coke!

The other big eatery was Little Tavern, which we would fancy up by calling it "Club L.T"

You must have a few years on me but only only nights that did not consist of a box of Kraft Mac & Cheese. a hamburger (or veal cutlet) and a quarter bottle of ketchup, we could walk down for two 25 cent tacos and a coke.
    Let's go Brandon !!!

Normally I don't care for diced onions on my burger - I find Whataburgers annoying for that reason - and prefer a big slice. However White Castles are so small, the diced onion makes sense. I think maybe growing up eating White Castles is why I prefer all my burgers with just pickle and onion.

As for White Castles themselves, it's like a lot of food items - either you love them or hate them. I'm not old enough to remember 15 cent sliders, but I can recall a time before they would even so much as put cheese on them, let alone sell you fish sandwiches, onion chips and all that. It was burgers, fries and coke and that was the menu.

The history of White Castle is fascinating. Watch this video starting at about 32 minutes. (Actually, watch the whole thing when you have time. They get into the history of other things, too, like hot dogs and pizza.)
