And the Union leaders.
In my personal experience we bought off regional union leaders so the contract was agreed to before even meeting with the shop representatives. It didn't actually take that much
My brother was approached to run fake employees for one of the largest unions supporting the Democrat Party.
The union tried to burn down the house of a family friend because he went on vacation during their annual strike. Note: he was the foreman and in this occupation it was normal for the foreman to be part of the union.
His two daughters were inside. Luckily they smelled smoke quickly and not much damage was done.
My son worked for a union that never did a single thing for employees of any caliber. They just deducted from the checks and offered nothing.
But I never had the opportunity to deal with one of these "good unions".
One of my favorite moments was sitting at a steel plant waiting 4 hours for a young lady to show back up from the bathroom because her job was to hook up one side of the harness to lift out a large steel roll, so we could take it to the mill. One union guy hooked up his side but was not allowed to walk to the other side of the machine to hook up her side. 4 hours later she showed up. Union rules.
When they shut the mill down, I knew why.

The last strike I was involved in was in I think 1977 or 78 when Jimma Cawder was president. The Teamsters were going on strike but Cawder said they could not. They went anyway. The trucking companies made an offer which the Union turned down (don't remember seeing a vote to accept or not). We were out for about a week or so. When the union finally decided to accept the next offer from the companies it was exactly the same as we were already getting. The entire exercise was to show Jimma Cawder who was really boss. All the members lost the money from the time we were not working.
I remember a trucking company in Jacksonville AAA Cooper (still around) that had the ire of the union because they couldn't get the employees to organize and the reason they couldn't was because they paid higher wages with better work rules than the union contracts allowed. The union claimed they paid that in order to keep the unions out, which may be true but they also would have done so to attract the best workers and a union was unnecessary.

You did, but don't worry it's okay. So the membership through their silence (aka "acceptance through silence") agreed to strike.
What I can tell you is that it would never fly with my union. Our bylaws prevent any strike unless the individual locals vote to give the international permission to call a strike if they deem necessary and our members exactly strike happy, instead working through other legal means to achieve contracts.
