The 357 is too heavy for me.

I'm assuming from the conversation that you're a lady. (If I'm wrong, I apologize.) I've been told by professional firearms trainers that they find women much easier to teach than men. Because every man knows everything. They are not open to learning something new.

A .38 special snubnose is the very next thing on my list. And then after that, this: rs-32523-Colt-SAA-after_IMG_3675-scaled.jpg

Yes, I'm female. My husband is a good teacher, lots of patience.

Awesome. A patient teacher is a good teacher.

    Edit - If that's your dog, it's a beauty. I'm a sucker for a German shepherd.

There is a certain amount of truth to that. In many cases, women are easier to train than men. I think there are a couple of factors at work there. Men tend to think they know a lot more about shooting than they actually do. Women tend to be more receptive, especially if they are new shooters. There is also an ego component involved. This is very obvious if they are training with a spouse/significant other. They often feel a need to "demonstrate their prowess" if a wife/girlfriend is present. The ones that I find most annoying are the ones who want to "coach" their wives and try to tell them how to shoot. I have no problem telling them to go away and let their wives shoot without their "advice".

It is not at all unusual for a "new" female shooter to outshoot the guy who talks her into going to the range.

No, but I understand they are useful to practice certain aspects of marksmanship. And for hunting really small game, like squirrels.

I once had a S&W Model 64 with a 2" barrel and spurless hammer. Get weapon. Easy to conceal. I shot as well with it out to 20' as I did with my Sig.
