There is a certain amount of truth to that. In many cases, women are easier to train than men. I think there are a couple of factors at work there. Men tend to think they know a lot more about shooting than they actually do. Women tend to be more receptive, especially if they are new shooters. There is also an ego component involved. This is very obvious if they are training with a spouse/significant other. They often feel a need to "demonstrate their prowess" if a wife/girlfriend is present. The ones that I find most annoying are the ones who want to "coach" their wives and try to tell them how to shoot. I have no problem telling them to go away and let their wives shoot without their "advice".
It is not at all unusual for a "new" female shooter to outshoot the guy who talks her into going to the range.
