Something I found amusing: Meghan Murphy of Feminist Current parodies the way the way trans activists celebrate International Women's Day in her new article, International Women's Day, but for men.
From a combination of the article itself and the comments, here are my personal favorite lines:
John Horgan, leader of the BC NDP, tweeted, “At a time when trans people, particularly trans women and girls, are under increased attack around the world, let me add my voice to say clearly: Trans women are women. #IWD.”
I think I speak for all of us when I say, THANK YOU, JOHN. Why celebrate women on International Women’s Day when there are at least 12 men who would like to be celebrated instead.
Broadcaster India Willoughby argued that men have been “100% erased from #IWD,” yet Rowling had the gall to complain they were getting too much attention. This last one is actually just a tweet by the Vagina Museum that, especially considering their name, I find to constitute a form of self-parody:Biology is such a terf.
The most astute observation in my view though came from a commenter using the apt screen name acommentator, who challenged: "One wonders if Mr. Horgan's dating practice matches his professed belief that "trans women are women.""This #InternationalWomensDay we're going to talk about trans women in history. We've turned replies off, because we know some people would prefer these stories to be erased and silenced.
