Another win for parental rights in Virginia

A lot is changing in Virginia now that parents have started paying attention. McAwful previously vetoed this legislation.

Another win for parental rights in Virginia

Talk about a difference in tone. In 2016, then-Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe (D) vetoed legislation that would have given parents advance warning when public schools expose their children to sexually explicit content. Now, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) has signed similar legislation into law. The move should come as a relief to Virginia families like mine because parents no longer have to worry about their children being bombarded with inappropriate material.

The legislation requires the Virginia Department of Education to develop by July 31 model standards whereby schools must provide parents with notification of any sexually explicit content within their instructional materials. In addition, schools must permit “the parent of any student to review instructional material that includes sexually explicit content and provide, as an alternative, non-explicit instructional material and related academic activities to any students whose parent so requests.”

Thanks to this legislation, when Virginia students return to the classroom this fall, parents will have the right to review any sexually explicit material in advance — and they’ll have the right to opt their children out of any instruction or lessons that include such material. Most Virginians might consider these types of safeguards a common-sense protection for the rights of parents and something on which all politicians and educators should agree. But they don’t know the modern left.

A mixed bag for sure and why is education now left and right and not just education? Because lots of people are stupid, that is not politically correct but true. Imagine being a teacher - we have several in family - and image having to put up with every parent's bias and prejudice. Soon the earth will be flat and aliens will be among us..... Years ago I talked to several teachers when sex education or Halloween or whatever topic came up, they all said the worst pains were the so called religious. That of course is why there are so many religious schools today, mind control is the purpose. When did being dumb become a virtue in America.

There is ongoing debate about the advantages and disadvantages of providing sex education in schools."

Why? Because the leftist teachers went to far? I went to Catholic Grade School. We started learning about sex in 5th and 6th grade - not kindergarten or 1st grade. Yes, it is difficult and uncomfortable, but necessary and essential. Kindergarten? What is wrong with notifying the parents?

By the way, we sent our kids to Catholic grade and Jr. High - not for mind control but to get the sacraments. Mind control? Really? Do you know why so many parents in the inner cities send their kids to Catholic Schools? Not mind control, no. Safety, discipline and education.
Any time you give a man something he doesn't earn, you cheapen him. Our kids earn what they get, and that includes respect. -- Woody Hayes

'Sex ed' should primarily be taught at home. The clinical aspects in school such as procreation are fine for the 9-10 year old group, but getting into the 'emotional' aspect is not something a 9-10 year old should have to comprehend.

It seems some parents have turned their kids over to the 'education system' because they have no clue how to interact with their kids. And that is their own fault.
