It would be expensive and having to type out a response forces people to consider what they are saying, whereas they are less likely to control their responses in an audio chat. No one would benefit by hearing people scream at each other or talk over one another.Originally Posted by CCitizen

Yahoo Chat had an audio talk room 20 years ago. You could talk or type and turn it on or off and it was a lot of fun and the type scrolled and moved VERY quickly in real time.
When that closed down and I moved to message boards I found them very slow but I'm not sure I could keep up with the rolling screens now. In fact, I know I couldn't.
ADDENDUM: These were social chat rooms. I think a political site would completely implode with audio!

Theoretically, the forum could include that feature, but it would probably be costly and fairly complicated to implement. I also doubt it would be used enough to justify the added cost and complexity.
