Sometimes the cops can be there own worst enemy

Watching ID about a double murder that occurred on an old man's land so he was questioned and gave an alabi. He went to the dump at that time. His story checked out but he had a suspended license due to DUI. They threw him in prison for 2 years at 77. WTF?
Wonder why people don't want to get involved?

Long gone are the days when they used to drive you home if they pulled you over.
I had a cop pull us over for smoking a joint as we stopped next to him at an intersection. He just took our licenses and had us drive to the police station to meet him. Then called our parents. My mother never showed so they just let me go. LOL

I'm all for DUI laws but he gave info in a murder investigation and all he did was drive w/o his license not drive drunk again. Seems a bit much and a great story to get folks to not talk to the police even when they aren't involved

My story involved a church parking lot and a friend who went for fast food on a motor cycle. The cop saw him driving back but not breaking the law other than where we were late at night.

He looked over our ID's that were local and said this is what we are going to do. You lock all your keys in the trunk of this car. You walk home and don't come back until next day when your sober.

And we said Yes Sir Officer!

To be fair, the "cops" didn't put the man in prison. It takes a court of law to put a person in prison.

True, however somebody kicked it to the DA because it had nothing to do with the case other than to prove that a 77 year old man didn't overpower , push into the woods and kill two kids. Not exactly a Sherlock Holmes moment

I know no duty to protect, maybe that should be re-written?

Well supposedly courts have ruled that police have no inherent duty to protect. And yet we expect that from them and they often even use the term "serve and protect" So make protect a bindable part of the oath and job description.

If there is a legal duty for the police to protect individuals, how soon do you think it would be before every city and town is bankrupt from lawsuits over individuals not being protected as demanded?
