Almost 2,000 times more particle pollution is produced by tyre wear than is pumped out of the exhausts of modern cars, tests have shown. The tyre particles pollute air, water and soil and contain a wide range of toxic organic compounds, including known carcinogens, the analysts say, suggesting tyre pollution could rapidly become a major issue for regulators. Air pollution causes millions of early deaths a year globally. The requirement for better filters has meant particle emissions from tailpipes in developed countries are now much lower in new cars, with those in Europe far below the legal limit. However, the increasing weight of cars means more particles are being thrown off by tyres as they wear on the road.

The tests also revealed that tyres produce more than 1tn ultrafine particles for each kilometre driven, meaning particles smaller than 23 nanometres. These are also emitted from exhausts and are of special concern to health, as their size means they can enter organs via the bloodstream. Particles below 23nm are hard to measure and are not currently regulated in either the EU or US. “Tyres are rapidly eclipsing the tailpipe as a major source of emissions from vehicles,” said Nick Molden, at Emissions Analytics, the leading independent emissions testing company that did the research. “Tailpipes are now so clean for pollutants that, if you were starting out afresh, you wouldn’t even bother regulating them.”

Solar is so overpriced its absurd...I had one knock on my door trying to sell me solar...I politely listend to his spiel about going all solar and the benefits and even just installing solar hot water...I asked him how much is just solar hot water.
He said 9 to 14,000 depending on factors....I said young man, im going on 75 Ill never get my money back..he said this isnt about saving money but saving the planet...I sighed and said theres no need to come back...you will wasted your time again

Most folks just don't realize how costly solar really is.

On the positive side, IKEA will be partnering with SunPower this fall to sell solar panels (the kinds for houses) at a cheaper price. Most will still need (or want) professional installation, unless they're familiar with electricity and wiring concepts.

Its also high maintenance that people dont realize...its bs...its for people who believe they will feel good if they get solar.

If I get solar I have to be saving something somewhere or why the hell would I pay up to 14grand to help democrats get richer.

Let's not forget that environmentalists see human breathing as pollution.

Originally we did not drill for oil. They would find it seeping up through the earth. Toxins and all. Nature pollutes.

This article is discussing particle pollutants, not carbon emissions. The primary benefit of the transition to electric vehicles is carbon reduction.

Yes electric will change this equation.

Electric cars are at least 20% heavier. The new F150 Lightning will be 30% heavier that the gas version.

Those tires are going to take a beating all the time just like carrying a 1500 lb load.

The only thing about the study is that it appears to be nothing other than isn't that interesting.
They are measuring particulates but then admit that there are basically no particles in normal exhaust anyways.
0.02 of a 4.5 mg/km legal maximum

Then if you consider what is thrown up as road dust that does not even come from the tires every second then it is inconsequential.

It reminds me of when they put out the scare about lead in the atmosphere from leaded gas when lead particles were too big and heavy to float in the air and lead does not exist as a gas. But that did not stop Congress from being stupid.
