Yep. I am sure that is why Russia agreed to a treaty with Lithuania guaranteeing rail traffic without a Russian-controlled rail corridor.

I wonder if Belarus will allow Russians to stage an invasion of Lithuania from its territory?

    MrV is wrong.

The Salt water slush is so soft that ordinary tug boats are used to keep the lanes open. Icebreakers are also used in the channels when needed.

Traveling the waterways is not a easier than traveling the icey streets of St Petersburg during the winter.

I am wrong and yet you confirm ice-breakers.

From memory that particular port complex was ice-locked for about 1/4th of the year. But that was long, long ago. Maybe global warming has changed things.

Not that it matters. Russia will deal with Lithuania's war acts.

Apparently this is part of Russia's reaction to the blocked rail line:

    Now Russia threatens POLAND
    • Russia claimed a 'precision strike' wiped out 80 Polish fighters in the Donbas
    • On same day Russia admitted taking down Polish flag from Katyn massacre site
    • Poland has called on NATO to reinforce Suwalki Gap to support Lithuania
    • Lithuania is enforcing a blockade on Kaliningrad that has infuriated Moscow

This week Moscow warned of 'very tough actions' against Lithuania after deliveries of coal, metals, construction materials and advanced technology were stopped passing through its territory on the way to Kaliningrad.

The Lithuanian chargé d'affaires in Moscow was told that unless cargo transit was resumed in the near future, Russia reserves the right to act to protect its national interests.

I would send the trains through with Air cover and armored engines. Include a platoons of troops to dispatch any resistance on the rail line.

That would be a reasonable response that would likely not trigger any military reaction by NATO.

I think Russia will significantly reduce fuel, fertilizer, and food sales to all European Union countries.

I believe Russia is putting in place the ability to airhead into Kaliningrad which will require fighter air cover.

Your tactic could work if Belarus allows Russia to stage from its territory.
